Margaret Caragan is the founder and owner of Pandora FX. She has worked in the Bay Area as a special makeup effects artist for 14 years. Caragan studied Fine Art at the Academy of Art University, earning a Bachelor’s in Sculpture, as well as 2 AA’s from Napa Valley College. She spends the majority of her time managing teams as a department head, creating highly detailed designs and executing them for commercial and independent film clients. She specializes in casualty and character makeups, creating custom prosthetics for creatures, likeness, old age, injuries and extreme transformations.
Tony Aldrich’s primary job is rigging effects equipment and props to bring makeup effects to life. Rigs include bleeding prosthetics, simple bullet hit blood, and smoking burn wounds. He also assists the lead artists with applying prosthetics, old age, and general character makeups. Tony started as a union carpenter and began to build sets for short films and commercials in 2011. Behind the scenes shop work includes mold making, casting prosthetics, and maintenance of the shop and equipment.
Chrysalis Rose lives to bring the undead to life. She started doing makeup effects over a decade ago in local Bay Area theaters before founding her own face and body painting company. She later moved to Los Angeles to train in the art of beauty, character, and special effects shop techniques at Makeup Designory (MUD). Now back in San Francisco, you can find Chrysalis on film sets and body painting live at events with The Human Art Collective.
Rachel Dagdagan is the speciality costume designer & fabricator at Pandora FX. Prior to joining Pandora, Rachel worked as a freelance womenswear designer and consultant. A designer and maker since the little years, Rachel formalized her education and honed her skills while studying at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in San Francisco. Following graduation, Rachel moved to London to attend the Graduate School at London College of Fashion; focusing on artisan business, startups, and entrepreneurship. Now back in California, Rachel designs for film and commercial projects through her Oakland-based “The Gnome Studio”, while regularly collaborating with Pandora FX.
Jason Ragosta creates character and creature concept art using digital illustration, 3D sculpture, and sculpted maquettes. He graduated from the Maryland Institute, College of Art with a Bachelors in Illustration. Jason’s past work includes storyboard art, managing a sound stage for Diane Baker at the Academy of Art University SFO, as well as teaching courses in screenwriting and directing. From 2010-11, he served as a production assistant for the Disney film John Carter. Outside of Pandora FX, Jason is a writer and director of photography on various commercials, music videos, and independent films. Jason is currently developing the first Pandora FX Production: The Ballad of Celia Lee, featuring creatures and makeups galore!
Megan Palagi hails from Napa, California and began working with Margaret in 2006 as a makeup assistant. Always diligent and a fast learner, Megan also brought a sense of calm and positive energy to set. She currently serves as the administrative assistant for Pandora, creating documents, plans, social media postings and helping calm the hubbub of running and building a unique makeup company of artists. Megan frequently did makeups for theater and acting performances, serving as the makeup artist for a theatrical performance of Beetlejuice while also performing as the character Lydia. She’s been pursuing her passion for acting full time and has been performing gorgeous aerial acrobatics with Wine Country Aerials.
For over 10 years, Josie Rodriguez has worked as a film industry makeup artist and hair stylist. She began her career in film while studying Digital Film/Video Production at the Art Institute of San Francisco, which has given her exceptional insight into the specifics of HD-quality makeup application and hair styling. Dedicated to the ongoing enhancement of her skill set, Josie has completed professional level continuing education courses with Makeup Forever, Kryolan, and Scott Barnes. As a licensed cosmetologist and published makeup artist, Josie has worked on television, commercial, corporate, and editorial shoots, as well as live theater productions. She is passionate about her work, has a great rapport with star talent, and will always continue to pursue the education and hands-on experience necessary to perfect her craft.
Melissa Capistrano has been a film industry makeup artist and hair stylist for 8 years. Her diverse skills range from standard beauty to practical FX, and her experience and professionalism make her a wonderful asset on set. In addition to her extensive knowledge of film-specific makeup application and hair styling, Melissa is also a licensed cosmetologist with 14 years of salon styling experience. She is a published Filipino beauty expert, and her work can be seen on television shows such as the Streamy Award-winning Leap Year, and the Sundance-selected feature film Saltwater. Melissa’s talent, experience, and creative enthusiasm enable her to create looks that will bring any character – whether beautiful or morbid – to life on screen.
George Schminky is a special makeup effects artist at Pandora FX. In the past, he was a partner in creating Pandora FX. Since wrapping competition as a finalist for season 6 of Face Off on Syfy Channel, he has moved from the Bay Area to Los Angeles, teaching full time for EI School of Professional Makeup while booking lab work for Hollywood productions. He is a graduate from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and currently consults for Pandora FX lab creations while staying in touch and occasionally returning to the Bay Area to collaborate on productions.
