Pandora FX is a special makeup effects company serving productions throughout the Greater San Francisco Bay Area. We provide services for a broad spectrum of special makeup effects, practical effects, and makeup artistry. We can work individually as specialists and in teams to form the staff necessary to meet your project’s specific needs.
Life on set ranges from horror, medical conditions, body-painting, beauty, creatures and hair work to specialty costumes, concept art and everything it takes to bring characters to life. Work in the studio includes lifecasts, sculptures, molds and custom prosthetics.
Necessity is the mother of invention and Pandora FX came into existence to fill the significant need for skilled makeup effects in the local film industry. Our mission is to evolve the state of makeup effects locally and personally. Great makeups tell a story, whether it is for narrative or commercial work. We can open up a world of options or filter down into a simple plan.
Our list of credits include Sundance world-premiered films, international productions, video game commercials, YouTube videos with over 52 million hits, top names and commercial clients, and when we’re not slaving over HD perfection, several team members have been featured as contestants on SyFy Channel’s Face Off, a lively competition of improvisational makeups.
Margaret Caragan is the founder and owner of Pandora FX. She has worked in the Bay Area as a special makeup effects artist for 15 years. Caragan studied Fine Art at the Academy of Art University, earning a Bachelor’s in Sculpture, as well as 2 AA’s from Napa Valley College. She spends the majority of her time managing teams as a department head, creating highly detailed designs and executing them for commercial and independent film clients. She specializes in casualty and character makeups, creating custom prosthetics for creatures, likeness, old age, injuries and extreme transformations.
“I love my job, my team, and working hard to bring stories to life with makeup. Most of all, I love meeting a challenge head on.”
